Papoutsanis: 39% increase in turnover in the first half of 2022

Papoutsanis ABEE showed strong growth in the first half of 2022. In particular, turnover recorded an increase of 39%, with sales reaching 33.6 million euros, compared to 24.2 million euros in the corresponding period of 2021.

According to a related announcement, the significant increase in turnover is attributed to the restart of the hotel market in Greece and abroad, and to the high performance of sales of special soap masses abroad and producers for third parties.

The value of exports for Papoutsanis amounted to 22.2 million euros, compared to 14.4 million euros in the first half of 2021, representing 66% of the total turnover and showing a growth of 54%.

Regarding the contribution of the activity sectors to the overall figures, it is pointed out that 15% of the total revenue comes from sales of Papoutsani branded products in Greece and abroad, 20% from sales in the hotel market, 44% from production of products for third parties and 21% from industrial sales of special soap masses.

By sector of activity, it is noted that branded products showed a decrease of 8% due to the significantly downward trend of the overall retail market and mainly the market of antiseptic products.

It is worth noting that during the first quarter of 2022, the categories in which Papoutsanis operates saw a total drop in value of 10.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2021, with the largest losses recorded in the category of antiseptic products (-24.4% in the quarter, -48.2% in April 2022).

Excluding antiseptic, the sales value of branded products shows an increase of 8%, as it “runs” faster than the market and therefore gains a significant share.

Hotel products saw a significant sales increase of 236% compared to 2021.

This particular category in the corresponding period last year moved at very low levels due to the impact of the pandemic, while this year the relevant sales are increasing both in Greece and abroad.

Third-party products (industrial sales, private label) saw sales growth of 15% over 2021.

The increase came from the significant further strengthening of collaborations with multinational companies for the production of their products and the continuous development of the variety of product categories offered by Papoutsanis.

Industrial sales of soap masses showed an increase of 86% in the first half of 2022, in this particular category which mainly concerns exports.

The growth is due to the international consolidation of Papoutsanis in the sector, the expansion of the clientele, as well as the continuous strengthening of the offered products.

In order to serve the growing needs, the new soap mass production unit that has been put into operation since the second half of 2021, has already succeeded in doubling the production capacity of Papoutsanis, while with the availability of synthetic soap masses, products with a reduced environmental footprint, Papoutsanis offers specialized solutions in the specific market.

Menelaos Tasopoulos, managing director of Papoutsanis ABEE, commented: “At a time when intense inflationary pressures on raw materials, packaging materials, transport, and – perhaps most crucially – energy, with often parallel shortages of these, create significant challenges in the market and the consumer, Papoutsanis makes every effort to manage the situation in the best possible way. In any case, the 39% increase in turnover and the 54% increase in exports during the first half of 2022 reinforce our belief in another year of growth for Papoutsanis.”
